Sometime ago i was watching a television show (interviews), where the guest was a writer here in Brazil (and i think he is known world wide): Ziraldo. The show was: RodaViva, and the nice thing about it is the “format”. I don’t know what would be the better translation for it, but something like “alive circle”, “alive wheel”, or something… the guest stays in the center, with many reporters, columnists, surrounding him, making questions. The guest needs to spin from one side to the other for answer the questions.
What made me remember that show, was an article i was reading these days about changing habits, and more precisely, the traditional books for digital ones. The author was talking about the real evolution this kind of literature has reached, and give some examples like “we tell stories“, Amazon’s Kindle, iphone, and etc. So, two things came to my mind: one was my difficult to read a book or a more extensive article on the computer… i simply can’t. I’m old, and i’m sure is just my fault, but i need paper. ;-) The second was that Ziraldo interview. As you can see here, the interview date is 07/19/1999, almost ten years ago, and when asked about the digital books, he said:

Last night i was watching my daughter reading a history for her son, but was a well known history, and i did ask her why she was holding the book. She told me that She did want to show her son that the nice history he was listening was coming from that *thing*”.

I think that time we did not had anything like kindle for she use like today, but the interviewer were more depth in this topic and asked him why he did not like the digital books. He said: “I like to mark the text, to turn pages with my fingers..”. But another reporter told him that he could do that with some applications, you can mark the pages, turn it up, etc. And the answer was: “But i like mobility, take my book here and there…”. Ok, you can use a laptop. “Even to bathroom”? (did ask Ziraldo)… Why not? (said the interviewer) So he ends the question with:
“But if there is not toilet paper in the room, i can use the laptop too”?
;-)

peace.
